Welcome to SBE27 Delft!
The transition to a sustainable, resilient and decarbonised built environment has entered its most complex phase. Across cities and regions in Europe and worldwide, the hardest challenges are no longer only technical. They lie in how people, technologies, infrastructures, markets, ecosystems and institutions interact: fragmented governance, constrained grids, financing gaps, affordability pressures, climate risks and institutional inertia.
Under the theme "People, Planet and the Built Environment: Governing District-Scale Transitions in an Uncertain World", SBE27 Delft takes the district as a critical scale of integration, where buildings, infrastructures, communities and institutions meet. We welcome contributions from the building to the national scale, and from every region and climate.
The Netherlands is meeting many of these challenges early and intensively, which makes Delft a living laboratory and a meeting point for comparing and translating lessons from around the world.
From 5 to 7 October 2027, SBE27 Delft brings together researchers, policymakers, housing providers, infrastructure and grid operators, financiers, industry, communities and practitioners to make this learning rigorous, visible and transferable.
Hosted at TU Delft by the 4TU.Built Environment Domain Acceleration Team Energy Transition (DAT-ET), the conference builds on SBE22 Delft and WSBE26 Melbourne. Its outcomes (peer-reviewed open-access proceedings, the SBE27 Delft Declaration and nominated best papers) will contribute to WSBE28.
Join us in Delft to connect knowledge across disciplines, sectors and regions, and help shape the next generation of built-environment transitions.
SBE27 Delft is part of the SBE Series, which is the leading global platform and one of the longest-running, for scientific and technical exchange on sustainable development and management of the built environment. It brings together top experts and the latest research and innovation to drive sustainability at every scale, from local communities to global initiatives, engaging all stakeholders across the built environment value chain. Whether addressing local or international challenges, SBE fosters collaboration between researchers, policymakers, and industry leaders worldwide.
